The Hero's Journey
In this project, I learned a lot of new things. I learned all the stages the hero goes through. The hero during this process gets to find his oneself through all of the stages he or she goes through and their experiences. Sometimes they aren’t even hero’s at first it takes some time. In my class, we read the “Alchemist” it was a good book. The story really when through the step of the hero’s journey and it was an easier book for me because I have a hard time reading and I was actually able to understand the meaning of the book. If someone had never heard of the hero’s journey and they actually went through the steps they would really get the steps in the Alchemist. I also read Siddhartha it was a more challenging book but I did learn some life lessons from the book. “It is human nature to not only function on, but also to thrive off of the approval of others.” Siddhartha is that kind of person that doesn’t like to learn from other people and you can always learn something from someone else. Also, Siddhartha is that kind of person to just go off and do something on his own. Another thing we did in this project was told tell our own story and I realize I got to listen to some amazing stories and get to know people awesome stories.
In this project, I grew a lot. I feel more confident in working in Humanities. For me, it had been really hard to work in a group and talk about a book that we read. So every time we would have to discuss with our group I would just sit there and listen unless I was jumping off from someone who was speaking. I had a fear because I always thought that if I mess up that someone would say something to me because it was wrong. I started to get over my fear and started realizing that no matter if I am in a group with someone that thinks my answer was wrong or right, I still said it and it could be wrong or right.
The understandings that I will take away from this project are what make you a hero. It’s not always the way they look or the physical appearance, it can always be a spiritual thing. I never knew that I now know is that the hero in the hero’s journey can go through it more than one time. A lot of people’s hero’s journey is the time they start school in kindergarten and go all the way till they graduate college. Another takeaway that I have is what makes a good story. I also understand why people tell their stories. Some stories are emotional and funny, but the best stories are the ones that come from the heart and the how the storyteller lived their life. A lot of incredible stories come from the hero’s journey.
