LINK Internships
At Animas High School, juniors are given a beautiful opportunity to pursue an internship at a business that helps us strengthen our interests for after college. These internship are 3 weeks long towards the end of April beginning of May. Juniors do not have regular classes during these 3 weeks and usually spend 30-40 hours a week with the mentor that they chose. To complete an internship you usually have to complete 90-120 hours total unless you have talked with Janae our LINK internship coordinator. It is a great experience to see what you are passionate about. For more information, visit ahsinternships.weebly.com.

The Liberty School
My internship was at The Liberty School here in Durango. Liberty School is a school that works with kids that are Dyslexic, Gifted, and Twice- Exceptional. I chose Liberty because I used to go there and when I graduate college I want to become a teacher and help kids that are also dyslexic just like me. My mentor was Bry Natonabah she is a tutor and a teacher, I really grew my connection with her when I went to The Liberty School and she was student teaching there. Each student there is smart and amazing in their own ways. The Liberty School is an amazing school and I wouldn't have ask for a better internship or a better group of kids that I worked with. To find out more about The Liberty School, you can visit their website at https://www.thelibertyschool.org/

Project
For my project, I created a multiplication bingo board to help Bry's math students comprehend their multiplication facts faster and easier. These math student range from the ages of 3rd through 5th. I am very happy I got to work with these student and help them learn and comprehend their math facts easier. I got to learn so much from them on how they do their math problems. One thing I learned from them, was when they are given a double digit number such as 16 x 3 they sometimes add 16 three times to get their answer. I am really happy I that I got to work with these smart math kids and have them teach me as well.

Currently, right now in the LINK process I am feeling pretty good. When walking into my first meeting with Janae I already knew what I wanted to do for my LINK. Now that I am in this stage of contacting my Mentor I am really not feeling well because I only have one person right now, but really I had two LINK people to contact but a couple of my teachers think I can reach/ stretch out to people that I already have good relationship with. But in all I am really excited about getting into my LINK and finding out who my mentor is.

In this LINK process right now I am feeling really proud of myself walking into the Junior year I was really worried I wasn't going to get a mentor or a LINK internship. But now that I am standing here right now I am really proud but I am also kind of feeling that I am making the wrong decision. But through this entire experience Janae has been there to just give me a hug and support me through the entire process. I am very excited about my LINK internship and can't wait to start beautiful adventures and also maybe grow more in myself because this LINK internship could tell me if I really want to go into Elementary Education.
LINK Intership
3/8/2019
I have had my internship for a long time and I am so proud. Walking into the first meeting with Janae I was really excited but I knew what I wanted to do and already had a couple of places in mind. When I was first walking in to Janae's office to explain how excited I am to start my LINK Internship it was a bright and sunny day and I just couldn't wait to get started and grow in myself. Here I am March 8th, 2019 and my LINK intership has been confirmed and can't wait to start my new adventure. I want to thank Janae for this beautiful experience and Animas High School for giving us this opportunity to put ourselves out there in the community.

My internship is going great just working with the students in different classes and different ages. I am working with math, writing, tutors tutoring, and Study hall classes. I am really enjoying my internship and happy that I chose it and can't wait for the rest of my time to spend with these amazing kids.
Overall
Walking into my first meeting with Janae, I knew already what I wanted to do and a couple of places that I had in mind. I started contacting 2 school which was River View and The Liberty School. From the first day that I had walked into Animas and my ambassador was telling me about LINK I knew already what I wanted to do and 2 places that I could and or wanted to go. I was interested in The Liberty School and Corrales Elementary School because I have both great connection in both of those places. The true piece that I wanted to gain from this LINK was seeing if I actually wanted to go into teaching once I graduated college. After nailing out what I wanted to do, I walked into Janae's office and said here is what I want to do and here are 2 places I would like to go. After having some discussion time with her and some of my teachers that wanted me to stretch myself and go out of my comfort zone, I opened up to a new idea and dropped the one in Corrales. After finally deciding where I wanted to go it was just the fact of contacting The Liberty School. Sometimes, the internship you really wanted to do says no so you have to figure out a different solution and different internship. Luckily, The Liberty School said yes instead of no and I was ready to go start my new adventure.
I chose The Liberty School, because I used to go there and when I graduate college I want to go and work there. The Liberty School gives amazing opportunities to kids that are dyslexic, gifted, and twice exceptional.
Walking into The Liberty School for my first day, my mentor warned me about one of the girls that wasn't coming back next year that might try to cause some problems with me. Once math class begun, I could already start seeing that her and I's personality was not going to go well with each other. After her arguing with me for a solid 20 mins about a math problem, I finally just gave up and ask my mentor to help her because the way I got taught from my mentor was not the way is actually learned but in reality it was. Another challenge that I had with her was when we would read together she would start crying that the lights hurt her eyes when they really didn't and she just didn't want to read so she was just using excuses to get out of it.
One thing that I hope to leave at my internship is a good and positive attitude. And that helping other people is something nice to do. Leaving my internship I want my little buddies to know that I will always have there back and that I am always there to talk to someone if they need it. I love my internship and can't wait to see what my future holds for me.
